Random Hall is a community where you'll always be accepted for who you are: any background, any major, any lifestyle, any orientation, any miscellaneous eccentricities. Our community is wide-ranging and spans many interests, identities, and hobbies, but we're all united by a desire to support each other, a willingness to embrace each others' differences, and a nigh-indescribable brand of nerdiness.

This mutual acceptance goes beyond just making Random a welcoming place to live. When everyone respects each others' ideas, one person's ridiculous suggestions, rather than being ignored, might get picked up by everyone else and expanded into something truly unique. You'll often find Randomites spontaneously creating things, having impromptu events and projects, or just talking late into the night. This explains many things that you might find in Random, from murals and artwork in the hallways, to our 25-year-old milk, to the source of those strange noises and delighted laughter you happen to hear from a nearby staircase.

Random is split into floors which serve as our subcommunities this Fall. Most floors (7 of them) have 12-14 residents, and its own distinct culture and set of traditions. We're all connected by our common values and several twisting staircases and passages, but your floor is the tight-knit group of people that you'll see every day. All floors welcome visitors from anywhere in Random and we all come together for weekly study breaks and many other events. Full descriptions of the floors are available to your right, under "Random's Subcommunities" and on the Random Hall Wiki. We love sharing stories!

Random Hall opened on 1968 February 29!

Its opening on leap day is the reason for its birthdays being celebrated only once every four years, and for its residents giving its age as an unbelievably small number, even for its recentness in being opened as a dorm.

By the metric of February 29ths passed, The Milk caught up to Random Hall in age in 2002.

(Find out about the Milk on the Pecker page, the Bonfire page, or the Random Hall Wiki!)

On February 29, 2020, Randomites gathered in Lobby 7 to sing the Birthday Dirge for Random. You can watch a snippet of that in the i3 video!

Random Hall Birthday Dirge

May the candles on your cake Burn like cities in your wake On your birthday. stomp Happy birthday. stomp

May your deeds with sword and axe Outshine those with sheep and yaks On your birthday. stomp Happy birthday. stomp

Storm the castle, burn the keep, Kill the women, save the sheep On your birthday. stomp Happy birthday. stomp

Here's a lesson you must learn: First you pillage, then you burn On your birthday. stomp Happy birthday. stomp

Indigestion's what you'll get From the enemies you've 'et On your birthday. stomp Happy birthday. stomp

Now you've aged another year, Now you know that death is near, On your birthday. stomp Happy birthday. stomp
