In place of floors, Maseeh has recruited 43 Virtual Mentors who are split into 11 teams of 3-4 Mentors to act as subcommunities.
The week after ESC, Mentor Teams will each host an event during “Mentor Week” (8/31-9/08). At the end of this week, first years will be assigned to teams. During the semester, Mentors will email their teams at least once a month to check in with them. They will also hold “Team Hours” at least every other week, which will be a set time that first years can talk/reach at least one Mentor at a time. Mentor Teams will be required to attend MHEC (Maseeh exec) meetings at least twice during the semester to represent their first years. Finally, Maseeh will allocate a budget to each team so that they can send care packages to their first years.
First years will have an opportunity to meet other upperclassmen who are not in their subcommunities. Maseeh has created a Discord server for the dorm, in which each floor has a channel and each Mentor Team has a channel. The Mentor Team channels are exclusively for the people in each specific team, but the floor channels are public. Currently, the server is only open to Mentors (and first years) who can communicate to their teams if they have the correct labels. After Mentor Week, the Discord will be sent out to the entire dorm. First years will be encouraged to join and participate in the floor channels in order to meet upperclassmen who are not on their teams.
All of the Virtual Mentors are on the [email protected] mailing list. Although there are no point people for the teams, each team can be accessed via a mailing list specifically for that team: [email protected], [email protected], …, [email protected]. Currently, these are only the Mentors, but the first years will be added to these lists at the end of Mentor Week. An overall point person for all of these would be the Maseeh REX Chair, Shelly Ben-David (email either [email protected] or [email protected]).
